Katherine's Story
Katherine Powell graduated from Samford University in 1982 with a BM in Piano Performance where she studied under Dr. Witold Turkiewicz and Dr. Betty Sue Shepherd.
In 1989, Katherine graduated with her Masters in Piano Performance at the Conservatory of Music at UMKC under Richard Cass. Upon graduation, Katherine was named head of the piano department at Alabama School of Fine Arts where she served from 1989-1999. During this time, she served as rehearsal accompanist to Kevin Kenner, Van Cliburn Winner, and developed a state wide Young Keyboard Artist Competition. In 1998, Katherine pursued post graduate study under Amanda Penick at the University of Alabama where she appeared twice on the television show “Pianist at Work”.
From 1999-present, Katherine has developed a private studio of over 30 Students in Riverchase and Columbiana, AL. Katherine has served for over 30 years as pianist for First Church of Columbiana.
